QRS / Home Renovation FAQ

Q: What does the process look like for getting an accurate estimate?

A: The process starts with a phone call to get acquainted and for the customer to provide a rough idea of the remodeling they are looking for and schedule an in person consultation. In the consultation, we will do all the necessary measurements (vanity, flooring, room area, etc.)  and go over the exact scope of work. The customer will receive an accurate estimate within 24-48 hours in their email.

Q: How does the permit process work? Do I need to get them or does QRS handle it?

A: For a client permit, QRS does a drawing of the remodel and brings it to the city to get approved. QRS pays for the permit up front and brings back the receipt for the customer to reimburse.

Q: What materials do I need to purchase? Does QRS help with the materials process or is it all on the customer?

A: QRS is responsible for all the raw materials and the customer is responsible for all finished goods. QRS will go with the customer to a warehouse to give them in person recommendations and be there to answer any specific questions. QRS also provides recommendations from various manufacturers to the customer via email. Lastly, QRS has established a partnership with several warehouses that provide a 20% discount to the customer so we recommend this to save as much money as possible.

Q: What is the difference between raw materials and finished goods?

A: Raw materials include wood, metals, plastics and fabrics used in the remodeling process. Generally speaking, you do not see the raw materials because they are behind the walls, under the ground, or used to make a finished good.

A finished good is already manufactured and ready to be installed by the contractor. For example, the bathtub, vanity, tiles, paint, lights, etc.

Q: What does QRS do differently to provide higher quality? It seems like most contractors claim this so what makes you different?

A: The most important thing that makes QRS different regarding quality is that we only do 3-5 projects at a time. This ensures that we are paying the most attention to your project and in turn providing the highest quality. We offer a 5 year labor and raw materials warranty because we are very confident that your remodel will thrive for much longer. The project manager is on site daily  The testimonials and past portfolio reinforce the quality that QRS provides.

Q: What is the difference between a handyman and a licensed general contractor like QRS.

A: A handyman’s work involves quick repairs, small jobs, and anything under $5,000. For example, fixing a faucet leak and painting a single room are jobs done by a handyman. General contractors are involved in major work such as full scale bathroom and kitchen remodels. QRS generally deals with projects greater than $5,000 and any job that requires permits from the city signifying it is a major project.
